So, I’ve been messing around with watches lately, and let me tell you, it’s a wild world out there. I decided to try my hand at getting a pretty good fake of a Rolex Two-tone Black Submariner. Yeah, I know, not the real deal, but I was curious about what I could get without spending, you know, a fortune.
First things first, I had to find a place to even start looking. After digging around, I found some online forums and groups where people talk about this stuff. Ended up on a couple of websites that seemed decent enough.
Choosing the right one was a whole thing. There’s, like, a million different versions of these fakes, different factories, different prices, you name it. I spent hours reading reviews, comparing pictures, trying to figure out what the heck was what. It felt like I was studying for a final exam or something!
I finally settled on one that seemed to have pretty good feedback. The pictures looked good, the price was within what I was willing to spend, so I pulled the trigger and ordered it. It was kind of nerve-wracking, not gonna lie. Like, what if it looked like total garbage in person? What if it was a scam?
Waiting for it to arrive felt like forever. Every day I was checking the tracking, hoping it wouldn’t get stuck in customs or something. Finally, the day came, and there it was, sitting on my doorstep in a boring brown package.
Unboxing Time!
Ripped that thing open like a kid on Christmas morning. Inside, nestled in a bunch of foam, was the watch. And you know what? It actually looked pretty darn good. The weight was there, around 130 grams, maybe a little less. I had read somewhere that the gold parts on a real two-tone are just, like, the middle links, the crown, and the bezel, and this one looked right.
- The black dial looked clean, and the little details seemed to be in the right place.
- The gold parts had a decent shine to them, not too flashy, not too dull.
- The bracelet felt solid, not flimsy or cheap.
I spent the next few days wearing it around, showing some of my friends who know a bit about watches and getting their opinions. Most of them were pretty impressed, especially for the price. A few pointed out some tiny little things that weren’t quite perfect, but you had to be really looking for them.
I even tried hiding it under my cuff like I’d seen people suggest online. Kinda cool to have this secret little thing on your wrist, you know? Though honestly, I’m not trying to show off or anything. I already have other black dial diver watches, so this was more of an experiment.
Now, I know these fakes don’t hold their value like the real deal, which is fine by me. Some folks online were saying the black ones are more “elegant” than the blue ones, which apparently scream “look at me!” But that’s just opinions, I guess.
Is it Perfect? No.
But for what I paid, I’m pretty happy with it. It’s a fun little piece to wear, and it definitely taught me a lot about watches in general. It’s kind of crazy how much detail goes into these things, even the fake ones. I’ve started noticing things like serial numbers and engravings that I never would have paid attention to before. The rarest ones are apparently based on ref. 5513 cases, called ref. 5517, pretty cool if you ask me. It’s a whole new world, man.
Would I do it again? Maybe. It was definitely an interesting experience.
