Today, I went on a little adventure to find a high imitation Rolex two-tone black Submariner. I mean, who doesn’t want a Rolex, right? But the price, oh boy, it’s way up there. So, I figured, why not try to find a good fake one?

I started my hunt online, browsing through all sorts of websites. There were tons of ads, saying things like “Up to 90% off” and “100% Authentic.” I even checked out eBay, and man, they do have almost everything there. But let me tell you, finding a good fake is not that easy.

My Visit to the Specialty Store

Then, I decided to go to one of those specialty stores. You know, the ones that kind of look legit but also kind of shady. I walked in, and the guy behind the counter showed me this two-tone black Submariner. It looked pretty darn good, I have to admit. Black and gold, you see it everywhere, it’s a classic.

The Details

  • I compared a few models. The guy told me this one weighs about 130g, and only a small part of it is actually gold. Mostly just the middle links, the crown, and the bezel.
  • He also mentioned something about a reference number, 5517, which is apparently super rare. Only 1,500 were made, and way less are still around.
  • Then there’s this other number, 126610, which is a newer model from 2020. The crown guard is a bit different, and it has a new Caliber 3235 movement. Whatever that means.

The store guy also told me about something called the “Rolex Bluesy,” which is apparently a rare version of the Submariner, and they sell for around 20,000. That’s way out of my budget.

So, after spending hours looking and comparing, did I buy one? Well, let’s just say I’m still thinking about it. It’s a tough call. These high imitation watches look so real, but there’s always that risk, you know? Plus, the price, even for a fake, is still pretty high. I’ll probably sleep on it and see how I feel tomorrow.
