Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Chronograph for a while now. But, you know, the price tag is pretty hefty. So, I thought, why not try to make my own? I mean, how hard could it be, right?
First off, I started digging around online to see what I could find about the watch. I looked at a bunch of pictures and read through some forums to get a feel for the design and what makes it tick. I found some posts talking about counterfeit versions, which was a bit of a red flag, but I figured as long as I was careful, I’d be alright.
Next, I started hunting for parts. I needed a case, a dial, hands, a movement, the whole nine yards. This was probably the trickiest part of the whole process. I scoured the internet for days, checking out different websites. Finally, I stumbled upon some decent-looking parts that seemed like they would fit the bill.
- I ordered the parts and waited. It felt like forever, but eventually, they arrived.
- Then came the fun part – putting it all together.
- I laid out all the pieces and started assembling the watch. It was a bit fiddly, and I definitely made a few mistakes along the way, but I kept at it.
- I referenced those online pictures and diagrams a lot to make sure I was doing things right.
After hours of tinkering and a few choice words, I finally got it all together. It wasn’t perfect, but it looked pretty darn close to the real deal. I strapped it on my wrist, and I gotta say, it felt pretty good.
Now, I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t exactly the same as owning a genuine Jaeger-LeCoultre, but it was a fun project, and I learned a lot along the way. Plus, I saved a ton of money. Would I do it again? Maybe. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you’re up for a challenge and you’re willing to put in the time and effort, it can be a pretty rewarding experience.
But seriously it is not a easy task, especially I found some good part looks like fit for the Reverso series. I thought that maybe the next time I can try that. You know, the Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Caliber 822 is really hard to imitate, many details were different. I guess if you are really into watches and you have the budget, just go buy a real one, don’t be like me.
