Well, let me tell you, I saw this watch the other day, this Omega Speedmaster Apollo 8, they call it. Fancy name, ain’t it? “Dark Side of the Moon,” they say. Sounds like some kind of spooky story, don’t it? But it’s a watch, a real fancy one. Black as coal, that’s for sure. They say it’s like the moon, the dark part we don’t see.
This Omega Dark Side Moon Apollo 8, it’s somethin’ else. They say it’s got somethin’ to do with them astronauts, the ones that went up to the moon back in the day. 1968, I think it was. Old Jim’s boy was tellin’ me all about it. Said them astronauts were the first ones to see the other side of the moon. Imagine that! We just see the one side, all lit up. But they saw the dark side. That’s why they made this watch, he said. To remember that.
It’s all black, this Omega Speedmaster Apollo. Black as the night sky without no stars. You need a strong light just to see the time. I wouldn’t know how to read it in the dark, that’s for sure. But I guess them rich folks, they got plenty of lights. They say this watch, it’s made of some special stuff. Not metal, like you’d think. Some kind of fancy ceramic, hard as a rock.
- This Omega Speedmaster Apollo 8, it ain’t cheap, I can tell you that much.
- Costs more than my whole house, I reckon.
- But it’s got all these little doohickeys on it.
- Little dials and buttons.
- I don’t know what they all do, but they look important.
They say it’s like a little machine on your wrist. Got all these little gears and springs inside, all workin’ together to tell the time. My old clock, it just got a couple of hands and a big old spring you gotta wind up. This thing, it’s somethin’ else. They say the front of it looks like the moon’s surface, all bumpy and full of holes. They call them craters. And the back, that’s supposed to be like the dark side. Don’t know how they know what that looks like, but that’s what they say.
This new Omega Dark Side Moon Apollo 8 they are selling now, it has this thing inside they call a “caliber 3869”. Sounds like a gun to me, but I guess it is some kind of engine for the watch. Based on another one called “caliber 3861”. Like they just made it even more fancy. I can’t keep up with all these numbers.
You know, they say this Omega Speedmaster Apollo, it’s a “chronograph.” Sounds like somethin’ you’d get at the doctor’s office, don’t it? But it just means it can time things, like a stopwatch. I guess that’s useful if you’re racin’ horses or somethin’. Or maybe for them astronauts, timin’ how long they’re in space.
I saw a young fella wearin’ one of these Omega Speedmaster Apollo 8 watches the other day. Said it was his first Omega. Fancy, huh? First one! I ain’t never even had one Omega, let alone a first one. He was real proud of it, showin’ it off to everyone.
Now, I don’t know much about these fancy watches. My old Timex, it tells the time just fine. But this Omega Dark Side Moon Apollo 8, it’s more than just a watch, I guess. It’s like a little piece of history, they say. A reminder of that time them men went to the moon.
It’s a bit much for me, I reckon. Too many buttons and dials. And that dark color, it’s kinda gloomy, ain’t it? But I guess some folks like that. Makes ’em feel like they got a little piece of the moon right there on their wrist.
And they say this watch, it’s a “luxury” watch. That means it’s real expensive and fancy. Like somethin’ a king would wear. I guess if you got the money, why not? It’s a nice lookin’ thing, even if it is a bit dark and mysterious. This Omega Speedmaster Apollo 8, its a conversation starter that is for sure.
If you are into that kind of thing, space and the moon and all that, maybe this is the watch for you. It is a Omega Speedmaster after all. I heard that is a big deal. They say this watch has the greatest history out of all them fancy watches. Don’t know if that is true, but it sure sounds good, don’t it? This Omega Dark Side Moon Apollo 8 is special. At least, that’s what they all say.
