Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another project! This time, I tried to copy a fancy bag. I’m talking about the YSL COLLEGE BAG. Yeah, that’s right, the one that costs more than my rent! So, I saw this bag online and thought, “Hey, I can probably make that.” Spoiler alert: I did, and it took me way longer than I thought it would.
First thing I did was look for the bag online.
I needed to see what this thing actually looks like from all angles. I found it on some fancy online stores and even some used ones, which were still pretty expensive. Some of them had a bunch of pictures, which was super helpful. I saved all those pictures because I needed to know every little detail.
Next, I had to find materials that looked like the real deal.
This bag has a quilted look, so I looked for some black leather that I could quilt myself. It is not an easy job! Then there is the shiny YSL logo and a chain strap. Those were a bit easier to find online, but getting them to look right took some time. I ended up buying a few different logos and chains to see which ones looked the best.
Then came the actual making of the bag.
- I started by cutting the leather into the right shapes.
- Then I quilted the front and back pieces, which was a pain, to be honest. It is not as easy as it looks.
- After that, I sewed all the pieces together.
- The hardest part was getting the shape right. I had to redo it a couple of times.
- Once the bag was assembled, I added the YSL logo and the chain strap.
- Those were pretty straightforward, but I had to make sure they were centered and secure.
The Final Result
It is not perfect, but it looks pretty darn close to the real thing. I mean, you would have to look really close to see the differences. I’m pretty proud of how it turned out, especially since I have never done anything like this before.
So, would I recommend trying to remake a YSL COLLEGE BAG? Maybe, if you have got a lot of time and patience. It is definitely a challenging project, but it is also pretty rewarding when you see the final product. Plus, you will save a ton of money! I might try another designer bag in the future, who knows.
