Alright, so I saw this Yves Saint Laurent YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG the other day and thought, “Man, that’s a sharp bag.” But then I saw the price tag and almost choked. So, what’s a guy to do? Try to remake it, of course! I’m not a professional or anything, but I’ve got a few tools and some time on my hands.

First, I started looking up everything I could about this bag. Turns out, it’s got a lot of names – people call it the Le Carré, sometimes just YSL, sometimes Saint Laurent. And there are different versions too, like python and calfskin. I’m going for the classic leather look, naturally. I also found out that real designer bags have a serial number, but only after 1997. So, no serial number on this project!

Next, I started gathering my materials. I found some pretty decent leather that felt good in my hands. I also needed some strong thread, needles, and some metal hardware for the clasp and strap. This is where things started getting real. Cutting the leather was nerve-wracking! I used a really sharp utility knife and a metal ruler to make sure my lines were straight.

  • Got the leather
  • Got the thread and needles
  • Got the metal hardware

Sewing was a whole different beast. I practiced a bit on some scrap leather first, just to get the hang of it. I tried to copy the stitching I saw in pictures of the real bag. It’s a lot harder than it looks, let me tell you. My hands were cramping up after a while! But I kept at it, slowly but surely.

The most tricky part was probably attaching the hardware. Getting the clasp to close properly took some serious effort. But I wasn’t giving up. I messed around with it until it finally clicked into place. Felt like a real victory, that did.

Putting It All Together

Finally, after a few days of work, I had something that actually resembled a bag. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot. The stitching was a little wonky in places, and the leather had a few minor imperfections. But you know what? I made it myself! And it looked pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. It has that boxy, kinda sharp look that the real YSL bag has. They say it’s “gender-blurring”, but to me it’s just a good looking bag.

This whole thing was a fun challenge. And it saved me a ton of money! Plus, now I’ve got a unique bag that nobody else has. It’s not a real Saint Laurent, but it’s my Saint Laurent. And that’s good enough for me. I’m feeling proud of myself, I must admit. This was a great way to put my hands to use and test my crafting skills. I had a lot of fun even though it was much harder than I thought it would be.
