Alright, folks, let’s dive into something I messed around with recently. It’s about making a knock-off of that fancy Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001 watch. Yeah, the one that’s crazy expensive.
So, first off, I started by looking up everything I could find about this watch. It’s got this “Clous de Paris” thing on the bezel, which is basically a fancy way of saying it’s got a bunch of tiny little pyramids. Looked real shiny and all polished in the pictures.
Then, I dug into the specs. This thing is 39mm wide and about 8.08mm thick. I grabbed some cheap metal – definitely not 18k gold like the real one – and got to work. I used my tools to shape it roughly like the real Calatrava. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, I’m no watchmaker.
My Process
- Started with a basic sketch. Just to get the general idea down.
- Cut out the case from the metal. That took a while, not gonna lie.
- Tried to make those tiny pyramids. Man, that was tough! I used some small files and a lot of patience.
- Polished the whole thing up. It wasn’t as shiny as the pictures, but it was shiny.
- Put it all together. It kinda looked like a watch!
Honestly, it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Those watchmakers really know their stuff. Making those tiny details is super tricky. I messed up a few times and had to start over on some parts. In the end I managed to make all the parts.
In the end, I ended up with something that kinda looked like the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001. It wasn’t perfect, and it definitely wasn’t worth thousands of dollars. But it was a fun project, and I learned a lot. I mean a lot. And I also wasted a lot of metal plate, it was painful to watch, you know.
Would I do it again? Maybe. It was satisfying to make something with my own hands. But if you want a real fancy watch, you’re probably better off saving up and buying the real deal. Or, you know, just get a regular watch that tells the time. Those work too.
I recorded the video but I won’t upload it, at least not for now, I don’t want to get into trouble, right?
So, that’s my story about trying to remake a super expensive watch. Hope you found it interesting, or at least mildly amusing.
