Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, and I recently got this idea to try and remake a really fancy one – the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001. I mean, this thing is a beauty. They say it costs over 30 grand to buy new, and even used ones go for a ton. I thought, “Why not give it a shot myself?” It has always been my dream.
First, I started digging around to find out everything I could about this watch. Turns out, the official one has a 39mm case, it’s about 8mm thick, and it’s all shiny and polished. It’s got over 200 tiny parts inside! There is no doubt that I will spend a lot of time on it.
Next, I started gathering materials. Now, I’m not made of money, so I wasn’t getting any real gold or anything. But I found some pretty decent alternatives that looked the part. I also got a basic watch movement to work with. I’m not trying to fool anyone into thinking this is a real Patek, but I wanted it to at least tell time! I bought them online.
The hardest part was definitely trying to get the case right. I used a mold that was similar to the real Calatrava. I spent hours and hours just measuring and checking that the thickness was close to 8mm. Let me tell you, it was a pain. But after a few tries, I managed to get something that looked halfway decent.
- First, I sketched out the design, trying to copy the look of the 6119G.
- Then, I started working on the watch face. I found a picture online, printed it out, and carefully attached it to the watch.
- Next, I had to fit the watch hands. This was super tricky, as they’re really small and delicate.
After that, it was time to put everything together. I carefully assembled all the parts, making sure everything fit just right. I messed up a few times, ngl, and had to redo some parts. It took a while, but finally, I had something that resembled the 6119G. It was not perfect, but I was pretty proud of it.
Finally, I started to make the watch work. The hands were ticking, and it was actually keeping time! It wasn’t perfect, but it was my own little version of a super expensive watch. And I made it with my own two hands.
So, that’s my story of trying to remake the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot along the way. Maybe it’s not as fancy as the real thing, but it’s special to me. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll actually be able to afford the real deal! But for now, I’m happy with my little homemade version.
