So, I finally decided to remake that Prada Galleria Saffiano bag, the small one. I’d been seeing it around, you know, on Instagram and stuff, and it just looked so darn classy. It’s not too big, not too small, just the right size for carrying your everyday stuff, like your phone, wallet, keys, and maybe a lipstick or two.
First things first, I had to find the actual bag. I knew it was sold at the official Prada flagship store, but I wasn’t about to waltz in there without doing my homework. I hopped online and started digging. Turns out, this bag is kind of a big deal. It’s called a “Galleria” because, apparently, the first Prada store was in this fancy shopping arcade in Milan called Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Who knew, right?
Anyways, I learned that this bag is usually made with this “Saffiano” leather. Sounds fancy, huh? From what I gathered, it’s real leather that’s been treated and stamped with this cross-hatch pattern. Makes it tough and scratch-resistant, which is great for clumsy folks like me. I also found out that the hardware, like the buckles and the little Prada logo, is usually gold-plated. That’s a nice touch, adds a bit of bling.
Armed with this knowledge, I decided to take the plunge and actually remake the bag. This was back when I was living in New York City, so I just took the subway down to Fifth Avenue, where all the fancy stores are. It was like walking into a movie, all marble and glass and salespeople who look like they stepped out of a magazine. I finally found the bag, and it was even prettier in person. I spent a while checking it out, feeling the leather, inspecting the stitching, making sure I knew every little detail. This is a Special Edition that I wanted to remake.
After that, the real work began, I went back home and drafted a plan. I was able to find the similar materials to remake the bag. I spent days, weeks even, measuring, cutting, sewing, and gluing. I made a few mistakes along the way, had to rip out seams and start over, but I was determined to get it right.
Finally, after all that effort, I finished it. My very own remake of the Small Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. And you know what? It looked pretty darn good. It wasn’t perfect, of course, but it had that same classic shape, that same luxurious feel. I was so proud of myself. I carried it around everywhere, and people actually complimented me on it. Some even asked where I bought it, and I got to tell them, “Oh, this old thing? I made it myself.”
- Searched online for info about the bag.
- Went to the Prada store to see it in person.
- Bought similar materials that were needed, like Saffiano leather and gold-plated hardware.
- Carefully measured and cut the leather according to the real bag’s dimensions.
- Sewed the pieces together, paying close attention to the stitching.
- Attached the hardware, including the Prada logo.
Key things that I did:
It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. Now I have a beautiful bag that I love, and I made it with my own two hands. Plus, I saved a ton of money by not buying the real one. This thing costs thousands at the store! I just spent a couple of hundred bucks on materials. I highly recommend doing it!
